Hypnotherapy for Bed Wetting

Gentle hypnotherapy for nocturnal enuresis in children and adults, after medical causes are ruled out.

How We See It

Bed wetting responds well to hypnosis because it involves the exact systems hypnosis speaks to: sleep depth, body awareness and the signal that should wake a sleeper.

With children the work is short, playful and confidence-building. Nothing about it is shaming, and the child is always in charge of what happens.

What People Usually Describe

  • Deep sleep with no waking to the signal
  • Episodes cluster around change, stress or a new school year
  • Dryness during the day and not at night
  • Confidence and sleepovers have started to be affected

How We Make the Change

Anchoring

Attaching a calm, resourceful state to a physical cue you can use in the moment you need it.

The bladder signal is linked to waking, rehearsed until the association is automatic.

Future Pacing

Rehearsing the new response in the exact situations where the old one used to run.

The child rehearses a dry night start to finish, including waking and going back to sleep easily.

Reframing

Changing the meaning attached to an event or urge so the same facts stop producing the same reaction.

The nightly worry that increases the odds of an accident is defused.

Common Questions

How old does a child need to be?

Generally five or older, and willing. A parent attends the session.

Does this work for adults?

Yes, again after a medical assessment.
